11km from town at an elevation of 2590m (8428ft) within primitive forests of Oak & Magnotia etc lies "Tiger Hill" Darjeeling's most beautiful gift to the tourist.
BATASIA LOOP & WAR MEMORIAL
At Batasia one gets grand view of the town of Darjeeling perched on the slopes of hills Mt.Kanchanjunga in the background.
Almost imperceptibly the railway line negotiates a circle and descends 1000ft. in altitude.
ROCK GARDEN AND GANGAMAYA PARK
The Rock Garden was built by Gorkha Hill Council Tourism Department. Situated 10 km from town it is a very attractive picnic spot with natural water falls.
Just below Rock Garden is the recently built Gangamaya Park .This spot has a small artificially built out of natural waterfalls - the lake in which you can go for a joyride on the boat.
Located near the Darjeeling Railway station, Dhirdham Temple was built in 1939. Temple was built by Rai Saheb Purna Bhadur Pradhan and architect was Beg Raj Sahya.
JAPANESE TEMPLE (Peace Pagoda)
The Shanti Stupas in India were established by Fuji Guru, a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi, for world peace. There are six beautiful stupas in various places of India and the one in Darjeeling was inaugurated in November 1992.
SAKYA GHOOM MONASTERY
This monastery follows the lineage of Sakya sect of Vajrayana Buddhism. the monastery houses to small philosophical Institute.
Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary (70 kms), is one of the last refuge in the world of the one-horned rhino, an endangered animal. The viewing is from the back of an elephant. Experienced scouts lead the visitors to the exact spots in the wilderness where a rhino, a tiger or a herd of deer may be sheltering on the day and at that hour.
Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary (23 kms), is famous for its flora and fauna.The exceptional wildlife of this region includes elephants, gaurs, pigs, reptiles, birds and fishes. As one approaches the National Park, the reception is given by the continuous ringing of the temple bells, a typical sound created by the crickets.
